New coach of Slovan has experiences from England
The most successful Slovak team agreed on a three-year contract with Cypriots coach Nikki Papavasiliou.
In Tuesday's match of the 6-th round of Fortuna league against Spartak Trnava shall Slovan Bratislava present itself with a new head-coach. Former coach Dušan Tittel had resigned on his function and on Friday evening has the management of the most successful Slovak team agreed on a three-year contract with Cypriots coach Nikki Papavasiliou.
„We had very deep talks with Nikki Papavasiliou. We expect him to bring new and modern elements into our game. It is connected with better results, but mostly with better performances. Our game lack system and organization. I believe that with new coach we shall eliminate these weaknesses. We thank Dušan Tittel for his work as a general director and as a head coach for Slovan and we wish him all the best in his further football career and private life,” said vice-president of the Slovan Bratislava Ivan Kmotrík ml.
Nikki Papavasiliou has already achieved great successes as a player. In addition to several teams in his homeland, he has also played for Greek club OFI Crete in major league and in the jersey of Newcastle United. He became the first Cypriot footlball player to play in the English Premier League. In the senior national team, he has played in 38 matches and scored 7 goals.
After his active career, he gained the highest coaching degree and worked in academies of Newcastle and Stoke City. He has founded also his own academy on the Cyprus. For two years, he has been an international scout of Bolton Wanderers, afterwards he led several major league clubs in his homeland, among others Olympiakos Nicosia and Apollon Limassol. Two times he was awarded as a best coach of the year. Papavasiliou has also experiences from the bench of Greek club OFI Creta.
