Loss in Jelgava and end in Europa League
Slovan Bratislava lost in Jelgava 0:3 and didn´t pass through third qualifying round of Europa League.
Our team had higher ball possession in start of the game, however, Jelgava defended well and didn´t let us into goal opportunities. Latvian team had a possibility of free kick in 26th min, Diallo fell down after small contact with de Kamps in the penalty area and referee decided about penalty kick for Jelgava. Kluškins sent a shot to the right bottom corner and Mucha was close, but didn´t manage to catch ball – 1:0. Slovan tried to equalize and had three good chances before the break. Schet shot to the empty part of net, however, defender blocked ball to the corner. Afterwards, Soumah came through several defenders and missed the target. Just few whiles before break, Slovan performed good combination and Kubík was alone in front of Ikstens, however, he missed the target.
It was like bad dream, when second period has started. Bogdaškins sent uncatchable shot, which hit crossbar and ball finished in the net – 2:0. This was a critical situation, Slovan needed to score twice to pass for next qualifying round. We had two opportunities to score goal, however, Priskin´s header was stopped by Ikstens and Schet missed the target. Jelgava had a space for breakaways and Mucha made great saves against shots by Lazdinš and Malašenoks. Our big chance came in 82nd min, when Zreľák sent nice ball to the right side of penalty area and Schet missed the target. Afterwards, home team came to the breakaway and Malašenoks scored to the empty net – 3:0. In the very end, home defender Diallo was sent off because of incident with Priskin.
